ABHD5 Antibody (C-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects ABHD5 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ABHD5, also known as abhydrolase domain containing 5, CGI-58, or NCIE2, is a 349 amino acid protein characterized by its alpha/beta-hydrolase domain, which is essential for catalytic activity. ABHD5 is primarily localized to the surface of lipid droplets, where ABHD5 plays a crucial role in lipolysis, the process of breaking down fats. By interacting with Perilipin, ABHD5 facilitates the mobilization of stored lipids, making ABHD5 vital for maintaining lipid homeostasis in the body. Disruptions in the gene encoding ABHD5 can lead to Chanarin-Dorfman syndrome, a serious autosomal recessive disorder that results in various metabolic complications, including impaired long-chain fatty acid oxidation.
