QUICK LINKS

2-Hydroxy Estradiol is a metabolite of estradiol, arising from the enzymatic hydroxylation of estradiol at the 2-position of the aromatic A-ring. Estradiol is an estrogen, a steroid hormone that plays roles in the regulation of reproductive and secondary sexual characteristics, as well as various metabolic processes. The formation of 2-Hydroxy Estradiol is part of the metabolic pathway of estradiol, which is primarily mediated by cytochrome P450 enzymes. 2-Hydroxy Estradiol is considered to be a less potent estrogen than estradiol, but it retains some affinity for estrogen receptors, allowing it to participate in estrogenic signaling to a certain extent. 2-Hydroxy Estradiol is rapidly metabolized by catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) to 2-methoxy estradiol.
