SEE ALSO...

PGD Antibody (G-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects PGD protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). PGD (G-2) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. PGD protein, also known as phosphogluconate dehydrogenase or 6PGD, is a crucial enzyme consisting of 483 amino acids that plays a vital role in the pentose phosphate pathway, which is essential for nucleic acid biosynthesis and serves as a significant source of NADPH. This pathway is particularly important for cellular processes such as fatty acid synthesis and maintenance of redox balance. PGD catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of 6-phosphogluconate to ribulose 5-phosphate, releasing carbon dioxide and reducing NADP in the process. Notably, PGD deficiency can lead to increased erythrocyte pyruvate kinase activity and decreased glutathione synthetase levels, resulting in hemolysis, although defects in PGD are often asymptomatic and inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. The catalytic regions of PGD, including the substrate and coenzyme binding sites, are highly conserved across various species, underscoring PGD′s evolutionary significance and functional importance in metabolic pathways.
