HSV-1/2 gB Antibody (H126) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects glycoprotein B (gB) of HSV-1 and HSV-2 by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-HSV-1/2 gB antibody (H126) plays a critical role in understanding the mechanisms of viral entry and infection, as glycoprotein B is essential for the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, a process vital for the viral lifecycle. HSV-1/2 gB (H126) monoclonal antibody enables research on gB protein, which exists as a homodimer crucial for proper conformational changes necessary for membrane fusion. The extracellular domain of HSV-1 gB spans amino acids 31-730, while the cytoplasmic domain includes amino acids 796-904, and similar structural features are observed in HSV-2 gB. The importance of gB in viral growth is underscored by the fact that gB-deficient virions can bind to host cells but fail to initiate the synthesis of virus-specific proteins, highlighting its role in the early stages of infection. Anti-HSV-1/2 gB antibody (H126) enables valuable insights into viral entry mechanisms and potential therapeutic interventions targeting these critical glycoproteins.
