Choactase Antibody (E-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects choactase protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-choactase antibody (E-7) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Choline acetyltransferase, also known as choactase, plays a critical role in synthesizing acetylcholine in cholinergic neurons, which is essential for neurotransmission and cognitive function. Choactase (E-7) antibody targets proteins primarily located in the cytoplasm, though the long isoform is found in cell nuclei, highlighting diverse functional roles depending on localization. The presence of multiple choactase mRNAs, such as R-, N1, N2-, S-, and M-types, allows for the production of different enzyme isoforms, which can influence the regulation of acetylcholine synthesis. Expression of choactase is intricately linked to neurodegenerative conditions, as decreased levels and increased activity of the NFkB pathway have been associated with aging and Alzheimer′s disease. This suggests that regulation of choactase expression is crucial for maintaining cholinergic function, and understanding cellular localization and isoform distribution could provide insights into therapeutic strategies for cognitive decline. Phosphorylation at Serine 440 has been identified as a key post-translational modification that enhances choactase′s catalytic activity, further emphasizing the importance in neuronal health and signaling.
