Atracurium besylate is a benzylisoquinoline compound that acts as a neuromuscular blocking agent, causing a non-depolarizing block at the neuromuscular junction. It exhibits a slow onset and intermediate duration of action. Atracurium besylate, the bisbenzenesulfonate salt of atracurium, plays a role as a muscle relaxant and nicotinic antagonist. As a quaternary ammonium salt and an organosulfonate salt, it contains atracurium.
