    SEE ALSO...

Metallothionein 3 Antibody (1F11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects the Metallothionein 3 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Metallothionein 3 antibody (1F11) is available as a non-conjugated format. Metallothionein 3, also known as MT-3 or GIFB (growth inhibitory factor), is a 68 amino acid protein that belongs to the type 1 family and Metallothionein superfamily. Metallothionein 3 plays a crucial role in the central nervous system, particularly in the brain, where Metallothionein 3 is highly expressed in astrocytes. Metallothionein 3 is vital for neuroprotection, as Metallothionein 3 helps to mitigate oxidative stress and metal ion toxicity, which are significant factors in neurodegenerative diseases. Notably, Metallothionein 3 expression is reduced in the brains of patients with Alzheimer′s disease, suggesting a potential role in the pathophysiology of this condition. Additionally, Metallothioneins are known for binding heavy metals, thereby providing cellular protection against cadmium, mercury, and copper toxicity. Metallothionein 3′s broad expression in various tissues, including the heart, liver, kidney, breast, and testis, underscores Metallothionein 3′s importance in cellular growth, repair, and differentiation.
