ベンゾジアゼピン部位に作用する強力なGABAA受容体陽性アロステリックモジュレーター（Ki値はラット前頭皮質および小脳でそれぞれ1.2および1.7 nM）。α1サブユニットを含む受容体に対して約10倍の選択性を示す（α1β2γ2、α2β2γ2、α3β3γ2、α5β2γ2受容体に対するEC50値はそれぞれ2.6、24、60、77nM）。生体内で鎮静、催眠、抗不安、抗けいれん活性を示し、経口投与可能である。
