Gemin5 Antibody (10G11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Gemin5 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). Gemin5 (10G11) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Gemin5, encoded by human chromosome 5q33.3, plays a crucial role in assembling the Survival of Motor Neuron (SMN) complex, essential for spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) biogenesis. This complex is vital for pre-mRNA splicing, a process fundamental for gene expression and regulation. Gemin5′s interaction with SMN and other components of the SMN complex, such as Gemin2, Gemin3, Gemin4, and Gemin6, underscores its importance in maintaining spliceosomal machinery integrity. Gemin5 is found in both cytoplasm and nucleus, with significant concentration in subnuclear structures called gems, which are critical for snRNPs storage and assembly. Gemin5′s structure includes 13 WD repeat domains in its amino-terminal half, facilitating protein-protein interactions, and a coiled-coil motif near the C-terminus that may enable oligomerization. Gemin5′s function and interactions are particularly relevant in understanding spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a neurodegenerative disease linked to SMN complex defects.
