Heterotrimeric G proteins function to relay information from cell surface receptors to intracellular effectors. Each of a very broad range of receptors specifically detects an extracellular stimulus (a photon, pheromone, odorant, hormone or neurotransmitter) while the effectors (e.g., adenyl cyclase), which act to generate one or more intracellular messengers, are less numerous. In mammals, G protein α, β and γ polypeptides are encoded by at least 16, 4 and 7 genes, respectively. Most interest in G proteins has been focused on their α subunits, since these proteins bind and hydrolyze GTP and most obviously regulate the activity of the best studied effectors. Four distinct classes of Ga subunits have been identified; these include Gs, Gi, Gq and Ga 12/13. The Gq class includes Gα 15, Gα 14, Gα 11 and Gα q, two of which, Gα 11 and Gα q are abundant in brain and lung and present at lower levels in a variety of tissues.

Great results with Anti Gαq (10) sc-136181Anti-Gαq (10) sc-136181 works great in Western blot. Different amounts of whole neuronal cell extracts were lysed in 25 mM Tris HCl (7.4), 150 mM NaCl, 1% glycerol, 1 mM EDTA, 1% NP-40 and blotted with 1:500 of anti-Gαq. A single band of 42 KDa was clearly visualized by chemiluminescence.
Specific G alpha q antibodyI tested this antibody on HEK293 cells that were transfected with plasmids containing either G alpha 11 or G alpha q. The antibody was specific for G alpha q and had minimal cross-reaction with G alpha 11. However, in a dilution of 1:500 a relatively long (1min+) exposure time was needed, despite good transfection efficiency and high amounts of protein loaded), so the antibody might not work so well for endogenous expression.
excellent choice for Western blottingIf you're looking for a strong antibody for detection G alpha q to use in Western blot, this is a great choice. Specific and reliable!
