PKR Antibody (B-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects PKR of mouse, rat, and human origin by WB, IP, IF, and IHCP. PKR Antibody (B-10) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, HRP, PE, FITC, and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Protein kinase R (PKR), also known as EIF2AK2, plays a crucial role in the cellular response to viral infections by acting as an interferon-inducible, RNA-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase. PKR′s primary function is to phosphorylate the α subunit of the protein synthesis initiation factor eIF-2, specifically at serine-51, which leads to the inhibition of translation and effectively halts viral replication. This mechanism is vital for the host′s defense against viral pathogens, as PKR prevents the production of viral proteins. PKR is characterized by distinct structural domains, with the serine/threonine kinase catalytic domains located in the carboxy-terminal half and the RNA-binding domains situated in the amino-terminal region. Additionally, PKR′s activity is tightly regulated through various mechanisms, including transcriptional regulation in response to interferon, an autoregulatory mechanism that controls PKR expression at the translational level, and post-translational regulation via RNA-mediated autophosphorylation. This multifaceted regulation underscores PKR′s importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis and responding to stress signals.
