CTH Antibody (D-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects CTH in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). CTH, or cystathionine γ-lyase, is a crucial enzyme in the trans-sulfuration pathway, primarily located in the cytoplasm where it catalyzes the β-disulfide elimination reaction dependent on pyridoxal phosphate, leading to the production of ammonium, pyruvate, and thiocysteine. The thiocysteine generated can subsequently react with other thiols, including cysteine, to produce hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is vital for numerous cellular functions. H2S acts as a signaling molecule that regulates processes such as cell growth, hyperpolarization of cell membranes, modulation of neuronal excitability, and relaxation of smooth muscle cells, highlighting its importance in maintaining vascular health and overall cellular homeostasis. Furthermore, mutations in the CTH gene can lead to cystathioninuria, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by the abnormal accumulation of cystathionine in plasma and increased urinary excretion, underscoring the clinical significance of this enzyme. Anti-CTH antibody (D-12) is an essential tool for researchers investigating the role of H2S in physiological and pathological processes.
