VILIP-1 Antibody (183B2E) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects VILIP-1 in human samples through western blotting (WB). VILIP-1, or visinin-like protein 1, is encoded by the VSNL1 gene located on the short arm of chromosome 2 and is a member of the neuronal calcium sensor family, which is part of the larger calcium-binding protein superfamily. VILIP-1 is characterized by four EF-hands and a double-stranded RNA-binding domain, which are crucial for calcium signaling within neurons. VILIP-1 is predominantly expressed in the membrane, cytoplasm, and cytoskeleton of sympathetic and parasympathetic neurons throughout the brain, with notable exceptions in the caudate-putamen region. Expression levels significantly decline with age, which may have implications for neuronal health and function. VILIP-1 interacts with actin in the cytoskeleton, facilitating translocation to the membrane, where VILIP-1 plays a vital role in modulating calcium-dependent signaling pathways. Additionally, VILIP-1 binds to the 3′-untranslated region of trkB double-stranded mRNA in a calcium-dependent manner, influencing neurotrophic signaling. VILIP-1 also associates with G protein-receptor kinase 1, inhibiting membrane binding, which suggests a regulatory role in G-protein signaling cascades. Notably, decreased levels of VILIP-1 have been observed in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer′s disease, indicating potential involvement in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders.
