MFG-E8 Antibody (2B62) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects MFG-E8 in human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MFG-E8, also known as Milk fat globule-EGF factor 8 or Lactadherin, is a 387 amino acid peripheral membrane protein that plays a crucial role in cellular interactions and signaling. MFG-E8 is primarily located on the membranes of mammary epithelial cells and other tissues, where MFG-E8 serves as a specific ligand for Integrin β5 and Integrin β3, facilitating important processes such as cell attachment and potentially influencing fertilization and apoptosis. The structural composition of MFG-E8, which includes one EGF-like domain and two F5/8 type C domains, is vital for function, as these domains enable MFG-E8 to interact effectively with integrins and other cellular components. MFG-E8 has been shown to bind to rotavirus, inhibiting replication and thereby providing a protective mechanism against viral infections. Notably, overexpression of MFG-E8 has been linked to breast cancer, indicating potential involvement in tumorigenesis and making MFG-E8 a significant target for research in cancer biology.
