Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) ether can be used to diminish self-discharge of Li-S cells having both low- and high-sulfur-loading sulfur cathodes. Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) ether is a volatile liquid that serves as an anesthetic agent extensively employed in laboratory research. Its anesthetic properties are attributed to its ability to depress the central nervous system (CNS).
