Succinic semialdehyde solution is used in the synthesis of potent nonpeptide antagonists of human gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor. It is also a reagent in the synthesis of human melanocortin-4 receptor antagonists with a pyrrolidinone moiety. Futhermore, Succinic semialdehyde (sc-397497) is a substrate for both succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase(SSAD) and Succinic semialdehyde reductase (SSR). SSAD catalyzes the NAD(P)(+)-dependent oxidation of succinic semialdehyde, while SSR catalyzes the conversion of succinic semialdehyde to 4-hydroxybutyrate.
