NMU-23 Antibody (A-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects NMU-23 of mouse and rat origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). NMU-23 (A-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Neuromedin U (NMU) is a neuropeptide that plays a crucial role in smooth muscle contraction and was initially discovered in the porcine spinal cord. NMU is predominantly expressed in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly in the duodenum and jejunum, as well as in the nervous system, with lower levels found in the spinal cord, hypothalamus, and stomach. The NMU precursor, consisting of 174 amino acids, encodes several bioactive peptides, including the 23-residue NMU-23 peptide, which is located near the C-terminus. NMU structure is characterized by a hydrophobic signal peptide and paired dibasic amino acids that facilitate enzymatic cleavage, releasing NMU and associated peptides. NMU-23 stimulates contractions in the stomach′s circular muscle and is involved in central feeding control, while peripheral functions include smooth muscle stimulation, blood pressure elevation, modulation of ion transport in the gut, regulation of local blood flow, and influence on adrenocortical function. NMU-23 interaction with FM-3/NMU1R and FM-4/NMU2R receptors, which are expressed in various tissues and specific brain regions, underscores NMU-23′s significance in physiological processes, making anti-NMU-23 antibody (A-5) an essential tool for researchers studying this neuropeptide′s diverse roles.
