Cytokeratin 6 Antibody (LL020) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects Cytokeratin 6 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Cytokeratin 6 is a vital member of the cytokeratin family, which consists of intermediate filament proteins that are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity and function of epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 6 is predominantly expressed in the epidermis and plays a significant role in cellular differentiation and tissue specialization, making Cytokeratin 6 an important marker for assessing tissue pathology. The structure of Cytokeratin 6 is characterized by alpha-helical coiled-coil dimers, which assemble laterally to form 10 nm diameter filaments, providing mechanical support to epithelial tissues. The unique structural properties of Cytokeratin 6 allow for withstanding various mechanical stresses, which is essential for the resilience of epithelial layers, particularly in areas subjected to friction and abrasion. Cytokeratin 6 is involved in the response to inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha, which can induce expression in keratinocytes, further highlighting Cytokeratin 6′s role in skin health and disease. The gene encoding human Cytokeratin 6A, the dominant isoform in epithelial tissue, is located on chromosome 12q13, and mutations in this gene have been associated with various inherited skin and hair disorders, underscoring Cytokeratin 6′s importance in both normal physiology and pathological conditions.
