Candicidin ist ein Polyen-Antimykotikum hergestellt. Candicidin gehört zur Familie der Makrolid-Antibiotika und ist bekannt für seine Fähigkeit, die Integrität von Pilzzellmembranen zu stören, indem es an Ergosterol, eine Schlüsselkomponente der Pilzzellmembran, bindet. Diese Bindung führt zur Bildung von Poren in der Membran, die schließlich zum Austreten des Zellinhalts und zum Zelltod führen. Candicidin ist gegen ein breites Spektrum pathogener Pilze, einschließlich Candida-Arten, wirksam.
