P-Selectin Activators

Common P-Selectin Activators include, but are not limited to PMA CAS 16561-29-8, Histamine, free base CAS 51-45-6, Lipopolysaccharide, E. coli O55:B5 CAS 93572-42-0, Hydrogen Peroxide CAS 7722-84-1 and Adenosine-5'-Diphosphate, free acid CAS 58-64-0.

P-Selectin, also known as CD62P, is a cell adhesion molecule found primarily in endothelial cells and activated platelets. It plays a crucial role in inflammation and immune responses by mediating the adhesion of leukocytes (white blood cells) to the vascular endothelium. This adhesion is a key step in the recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation or injury, facilitating their migration into surrounding tissues. P-Selectin is stored in secretory granules within endothelial cells and platelets and is rapidly translocated to the cell surface upon activation. P-Selectin activators are compounds or molecules that induce the expression or activation of P-Selectin on the surface of these cells, leading to increased leukocyte adhesion and subsequent inflammatory responses.

The activation of P-Selectin involves complex intracellular signaling pathways. Various factors, such as cytokines, thrombin, and other inflammatory mediators, can trigger this process. Typically, the activation of endothelial cells or platelets leads to the exposure of P-Selectin on their surfaces, enabling the interaction with leukocytes expressing its ligand, P-Selectin Glycoprotein Ligand-1 (PSGL-1). This interaction initiates the tethering and rolling of leukocytes along the endothelium, a crucial step in their recruitment to inflammatory sites. By studying P-Selectin activators, researchers aim to gain a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying immune cell recruitment during inflammation. These activators can be valuable tools in investigating the dynamics of leukocyte adhesion.
