Myeloid Marker inhibitors are a set of chemical compounds that can potentially decrease the functional activity of the Myeloid Marker through specific signaling pathways or biological processes that it is directly involved in. Imatinib, for example, is a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor that specifically targets the BCR-ABL fusion protein, which is commonly overexpressed in myeloid cells. Its inhibition can lead to reduced proliferation and survival of cells expressing the Myeloid Marker. Similarly, Hydroxyurea inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, an enzyme required for DNA synthesis, and this inhibition can lead to a decrease in cells expressing the Myeloid Marker, given that rapidly dividing myeloid cells would be particularly affected.
On the other hand, Cytarabine and 5-Fluorouracil, which are cytosine and uracil analogs respectively, inhibit DNA synthesis by incorporating into DNA during replication and inhibiting thymidylate synthase, leading to DNA damage and cell cycle arrest. This can inhibit the proliferation of myeloid cells and decrease the expression of the Myeloid Marker. DNA damage is also induced by Etoposide and Daunorubicin, which inhibit topoisomerase II, and Azacitidine and Decitabine, which disrupt nucleic acid metabolism and induce hypomethylation by incorporating into DNA and RNA and inhibiting DNA methyltransferase.
