BOB_GPR15 Activators

BOB, also known as GPR15 (G protein-coupled receptor 15), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GPR15 gene. GPR15 is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, one of the largest families of proteins involved in signal transduction across cell membranes.GPR15 functions as a receptor for a chemokine called CCL5 (also known as RANTES). Upon binding to CCL5, GPR15 initiates signal transduction pathways that lead to various cellular responses, including cell migration and activation of immune responses.

GPR15 is expressed in several tissues, including immune cells like T cells. In these cells, GPR15 plays a crucial role in their homing to specific tissues. For example, it is involved in the recruitment of T cells to the colon, which is relevant in the context of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer.Interestingly, GPR15 has also been identified as a co-receptor for certain strains of HIV-1, allowing the virus to enter and infect cells. This has implications for understanding the pathogenesis of HIV.
