K-Ras Antibody (F234) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody, specifically raised against recombinant K-Ras protein encompassing amino acids 54-189 of rat origin, and demonstrates reactivity with K-Ras proteins from mouse, rat, and human sources in applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). The K-Ras protein is a small GTPase belonging to the Ras family, playing a pivotal role in cellular signal transduction pathways that regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. K-Ras cycles between an active GTP-bound state and an inactive GDP-bound state, a process regulated by guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) and GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs). K-Ras is primarily localized to the inner surface of the plasma membrane, a location critical for function because K-Ras facilitates interactions with upstream activators and downstream effectors in signaling pathways. This membrane association is mediated by post-translational modifications, such as farnesylation and palmitoylation, which anchor K-Ras to the lipid bilayer. The precise cellular localization of K-Ras is essential for transmitting signals that control vital cellular processes, as mislocalization can disrupt normal signaling, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and contributing to oncogenesis.
