Vinyl hexanoate is an organic product naturally found in Akebia trifoliata. It is a hydroxyl-terminated polyvinyl ether. Notably, vinyl hexanoate exhibits insolubility in water while being solubility in most organic solvents. Upon reacting with acetic acid it can form vinyl acetate which can be used to produce polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl alcohol. Vinyl hexanoate is also used as a film-forming polymer and an acylation agent in the synthesis of synthetic rubber.
