Trihydroxyethylrutin is a flavanoid derivative which protects membranes from oxidative damage produced by neutrophils and γ radiation which have deleterious effects on DNA. In addition, Trihydroxyethylrutin acts as a weak inhibitor of platelet aggregation which is also delayed in the presence of the flavanoid. Studies suggest that Trihydroxyethylrutin inhibits peroxidation of lipids in tissues such as the liver and spleen, however it does not have any effect on tumor cells. Furthermore, Trihydroxyethylrutin protects the mouse liver from oxidative damage induced by D-galactose (sc-202564) by up-regulating the expression of NF-κB p65, iNOS, and COX-2.
