RBP Antibody (F-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects retinol-binding protein (RBP) in human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RBP is a crucial transport protein that plays a significant role in delivering retinol (Vitamin A) from the liver to peripheral tissues, ensuring cells receive this essential nutrient for various biological functions, including vision, immune response, and cellular growth. RBP′s location in the bloodstream is particularly important, as RBP binds to transthyretin (TTR) to form a stable complex that prevents renal filtration, thereby maintaining adequate retinol levels in circulation. This interaction not only protects RBP from degradation but also serves as a diagnostic marker for vitamin A deficiency, as the molar ratio of RBP to TTR can indicate nutritional status. Furthermore, emerging research has linked elevated RBP levels in adipose tissue to insulin resistance, suggesting RBP may have a role in the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. Anti-RBP antibody (F-12) is an invaluable tool for researchers investigating the multifaceted roles of RBP in health and disease.

Can RBP (F-12): sc-46688 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Randy McDonald
Thank you for your question. Yes, RBP (F-12): sc-46688 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
