Pepsin A Antibody (A-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Pepsin A protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-Pepsin A antibody (A-10) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Pepsin A plays a crucial role in the digestive system as one of the primary proteolytic enzymes secreted by the gastric mucosa, where Pepsin A is responsible for breaking down proteins into smaller peptides, facilitating nutrient absorption. Pepsin A is synthesized as an inactive precursor, pepsinogen, which is activated by the acidic environment of the stomach, specifically at a pH of 1-3, created by hydrochloric acid. This activation process is vital, as Pepsin A is only active in the stomach, preventing protein digestion in other parts of the body. Pepsin A exhibits broad specificity, effectively cleaving peptide bonds involving aromatic amino acids, with a preference for phenylalanine and leucine, making Pepsin A essential for proper digestion of dietary proteins. Additionally, Pepsin A is classified as a member of the subfamily A1 within the pepsin family and is the predominant endopeptidase found in vertebrate gastric juice, highlighting Pepsin A′s importance in digestive physiology.
