DEF-3 Antibody (G-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects DEF-3 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). DEF-3 is a member of an evolutionarily conserved family of RNA binding proteins, characterized by its two zinc finger motifs, a bipartite nuclear localization signal, and two RNA binding motifs, which are crucial for its function in RNA metabolism and regulation. DEF-3 (G-6) antibody specifically binds poly(G) RNA, highlighting DEF-3′s role in post-transcriptional regulation, which is essential for various cellular processes, including gene expression and cellular differentiation. DEF-3 shows high expression in adult heart and thymus, as well as in fetal kidney, while DEF-3 expression significantly decreases during progenitor cell differentiation into granulocytes in mouse hemopoietic systems, yet remains present during macrophage development. The genes encoding DEF-3 and its homolog LUCA15 are located at 3p21.3, a chromosomal region frequently associated with deletions in small cell lung cancer, underscoring DEF-3′s potential implications in cancer biology and importance as a biomarker for studying oncogenic processes.
