O cloreto de creatina e zinco é o produto final do catabolismo da creatina. Constituinte normal da urina; débito diário de cerca de 25 mg/kg de peso corporal. Quantidades aumentadas na urina estão normalmente associadas a uma função renal substancialmente comprometida. Também se encontra juntamente com a creatina nos tecidos musculares e no sangue. Reage com ácido pícrico em condições alcalinas para formar um complexo de Janovski. A taxa de formação do complexo colorido, medida a 480-520 nm, é proporcional à concentração de creatinina.
