Cox-1 Antibody (4i272) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody designed to detect Cyclooxygenase-1 (Cox-1), also known as Prostaglandin-Endoperoxide Synthase 1 (PTGS1). Cox-1 is an essential enzyme localized primarily in the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear envelope of cells, where Cox-1 catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, a precursor for various prostaglandins involved in maintaining physiological functions such as gastric mucosal protection, platelet aggregation, and renal blood flow regulation. Post-translational modifications of Cox-1, including phosphorylation and glycosylation, are critical for enzymatic activity, stability, and interaction with other cellular proteins, thereby influencing prostaglandin synthesis and cellular response to therapeutic agents. Cox-1 is constitutively expressed in most tissues, performing fundamental "housekeeping" roles, in contrast to Cox-2, which is inducible and associated with inflammatory responses. Anti-Cox-1 antibody (4i272) is raised against a preparation of intracellular proteins from the HL-60 human cell line and demonstrates robust reactivity with Cyclooxygenase-1 from mouse, rat, and human origins in applications such as western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP), without cross-reactivity to Cyclooxygenase-2.
