Rimantadine hydrochloride may have antiviral properties in experimental applications. It may exert its mechanism of action by inhibiting the replication of influenza A virus. It targets the M2 protein of the virus, preventing the release of viral RNA into the host cell. This interference with the viral replication process ultimately leads to a reduction in the spread of the virus within the host. By disrupting the viral life cycle, rimantadine hydrochloride may hinder the ability of the influenza A virus to infect and replicate in host cells.
