OCIL Antibody (4H218) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects OCIL protein of mouse origin by western blotting (WB). Anti-OCIL antibody (4H218) is available as the non-conjugated form. Osteoclast inhibitory lectin (OCIL) is a type II membrane-bound C-type lectin that plays a crucial role in regulating bone metabolism by binding to natural killer cell-associated receptors, specifically NKR-P1D, and sulfated glycosaminoglycans. OCIL is primarily expressed in osteoblasts and chondrocytes, as well as in various extraskeletal tissues, where OCIL inhibits the differentiation and function of multinucleate osteoclasts through interaction with the NKR-P1D receptor. OCIL′s importance extends beyond osteoclast regulation; OCIL also modulates the immune response by prohibiting natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity and mineralization associated with primary osteoblasts and KUSA O cells. Furthermore, OCIL mRNA expression is significantly influenced by factors such as parathyroid hormone, calcitriol, retinoic acid, IL-1, and IL-11, which can enhance expression in osteoblasts. This regulation of OCIL is vital for maintaining the balance of bone remodeling and the overall function of connective tissues, highlighting OCIL′s significance in skeletal health and disease.
