Nicergoline, also referred to as Nivalin, Sermion, Nicergolin, or nicergoline, is a synthetic derivative of ergoline, an alkaloid naturally found in the ergot fungus. Although the precise mechanism of action of nicergoline remains partially unknown, it is believed to involve the activation of multiple receptors, notably the serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors, along with the dopamine D2 receptor.
