QUICK LINKS

n-Dodecyltrimethoxysilane is a clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid and emits a distinctive smell. n-Dodecyltrimethoxysilane is soluble in many organic solvents, including aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, but it is insoluble in water. It is used in many industrial applications due to its unique properties including solubility in nonpolar solvents, high thermal stability, and chemical resistance. The presence of its three methoxy groups renders it highly reactive, prone to undergoing hydrolysis in the presence of water, yielding a silanol and methanol. n-Dodecyltrimethoxysilane has various scientific applications such as a surfactant in both microemulsions and emulsions, an antimicrobial agent in hand sanitizers and disinfectants, and as a lubricant within the semiconductor industry.
