MMP-3 is an enzyme that plays a role in the breakdown of extracellular matrix components during normal physiological processes such as tissue remodeling, wound healing, and embryonic development. MMP-3 can degrade a wide range of matrix proteins and activate other pro-MMPs. MMP-3 Inhibitor is a cell-permeable p-methoxysulfonamido D-leucine containing hydroxamate compound that acts as a potent inhibitor of human MMP-3 (stromelysin Ki = 23 nM) and murine macrophage metalloelastase (MME/MMP-12 IC50 = 13 nM). Binds to the MMP active site Zn2+.
