QUICK LINKS

Mifamurtide is a liposomal formulation that contains an analog of muramyl dipeptide (MDP) with potential immunomodulatory and antineoplastic effects. Muramyl tripeptide phosphatidylethanolamine (MTP-PE), which is a derivative of MDP found in the mycobacterial cell wall, can activate monocytes and macrophages. Activated macrophages can secrete cytokines and induce the recruitment and activation of other immune cells, which may result in indirect antitumor effects. The use of liposomal encapsulation to deliver MTP-PE can increase its half-life and enhance its tissue targeting.
