Mel-18 Antibody (9HL1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Mel-18 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). Mel-18, a member of the Polycomb group gene family, plays a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression and is essential for proper embryonic development. Mel-18 (9HL1) antibody targets a protein primarily located in the nucleus, where Mel-18 functions as a transcriptional repressor, binding to DNA via its RING-finger motif and interacting with enhancer elements of various target genes, including Bcl-2 and c-Myc. The importance of Mel-18′s nuclear localization lies in its ability to modulate chromatin structure and influence gene expression patterns that are vital for cellular processes such as proliferation and differentiation. Notably, Mel-18 acts as a tumor suppressor by negatively regulating cell cycle progression, thereby preventing uncontrolled cell growth. In contrast, its homolog Bmi-1 has been identified as an oncogene, highlighting the delicate balance between these proteins in cellular regulation and their implications in cancer biology. Anti-Mel-18 antibody (9HL1) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the intricate roles of Polycomb group proteins in development and disease.
