    SEE ALSO...

LBP Antibody (4E8) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects LBP protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-LBP antibody (4E8) is available as the non-conjugated format. Lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) plays a crucial role in the immune response, particularly in the context of Gram-negative bacterial infections. LBP is primarily located in the serum and is secreted by hepatic and intestinal epithelial cells during inflammatory responses. LBP binds to lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which are components of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, facilitating their recognition by the immune system. This binding is essential for the activation of immune cells, as LBP enhances the transfer of LPS to CD14 receptors on macrophages, thereby amplifying the inflammatory response. LBP includes a 25-residue signal sequence followed by a 452-residue mature protein, which contains four cysteine residues and five potential glycosylation sites, contributing to stability and function. Elevated levels of LBP are associated with a heightened sensitivity to endotoxins, which can protect against sepsis, underscoring the importance of LBP in maintaining immune homeostasis during infections.
