Isopentyl nitrite is known to be used for non-aqueous nitrosation and diazotization reactions among other applications. Other potentially useful applications may include aromatic arylation, deamination of arylamines using THF as a hydrogen donor, and the synthesis of benzyne using anthranilic acid. This compound also has research implications including vascular studies and hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen cyanide toxicity. Clinically, isopentyl nitrile is used as an antihypertensive and vasodilator to treat heart diseases such as angina and to treat cyanide poisoning.
