Iron(III) p-toluenesulfonate, also known as Fe(III)-PTS, is a versatile and widely used reagent in organic synthesis and biochemistry. It is a strong oxidizing agent, and its application in the laboratory is mainly to produce organic peroxides and to oxidize organic substrates. Iron(III) p-toluenesulfonate has been used to study the oxidation of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, as well as the effects of oxidative stress on cells and DNA. It is also used as a catalyst in the synthesis of various organic compounds.
