Coumarin-3-carboxylic acid, also referred to as coumarin-3-acetic acid, is a naturally occurring carboxylic acid that belongs to the esteemed family of coumarins. It has facilitated the examination of the biochemical and physiological effects of diverse compounds on cellular and tissue levels. While the exact mechanism of action of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid remains incompletely understood, it is believed to function as an inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Furthermore, this compound has demonstrated inhibitory effects on other enzymes, such as lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1).
