CGP 71683 hydrochloride is a selective and potent non-peptide NPY5-R antagonist. This compound displays > 1000-fold selectivity over NPY1-R,NPY2-R and NPY4-R receptors IC50 values are 1.4, 2765, 7187 and 5637 nM at cloned rat NPY5-R, NPY1-R, NPY2-R and NPY4-R respectively. It has been found to have a wide range of biological activities, including antinociceptive, anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory, and antidepressant effects. In vitro studies have used CGP 71683 hydrochloride to study its effects on neuronal cells, such as its ability to modulate the activity of the CGP 71683 hydrochloride receptor and its ability to induce cell death in a concentration-dependent manner.
