Bisphenol A-d6 is a labeled monomer used in the manufacturing of plastics such as epoxy and polycarbonate resins. Studies indicate that Bisphenol A-d6 could be used to induce progesterone receptors in MCF-7 (sc-2206) human mammary cancer cells. This induction can be blocked using the compound tamoxifen. In addition, Bisphenol A-d6 is known to induce genes in vitro that stimulates cell proliferation and estrogen related responses. The deuterated form of this compound allows for easier detection of the material in biological cells using Liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy.
