A 61603 HYDROBROMIDE is a potent alpha1A-AR (alpha-adrenoceptor) agonist, at least 35-fold more potent at alpha1A-ar than at alpha1B or alpha1D sites. It induces dose response increases in spontaneous Ca2+ transients in rat ventricular myocytes in vitro. Additionally, it is a derivative of the naturally occurring amino acid gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and is used as a specific agonist of the GABA receptor. A 61603 Hydrobromide may act to modulate the activity of various enzymes and proteins, such as cyclooxygenase-2, phospholipase C, and nitric oxide synthase. It has also been shown to modulate the activity of various ion channels, such as the A 61603 Hydrobromide receptor, the glutamate receptor, and the NMDA receptor. Studies have found anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects of A 61603 Hydrobromide. Furthermore, it can modulate the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.
