QUICK LINKS

1,9-Dimethylxanthine, or 1,9-DMX, is an alkaloid compound naturally present in an array of plants, fungi, and animals, including those we consume like coffee and tea. Recognized as a caffeine relative, 1,9-Dimethylxanthine has a range of effects that have made it useful in numerous scientific research endeavors. 1,9-Dimethylxanthine functions as an adenosine receptor antagonist, impeding adenosine′s effects on the central nervous system. To add to its versatile profile, 1,9-Dimethylxanthine is also a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that elevates the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in the body, a molecule involved in regulating various metabolic processes, including the breakdown of fats and carbohydrates.
