1,8-Cineol is the chief constituent of oil of eucalyptus. It is a colorless liquid or oil. It has an odor like camphor. 1,8-Cineole is very soluble in water. Can be used in the synthesis of mosquito repellents and herbicides. Often used as a fragrance, in waxes for leather, flooring, air fresheners and pine oil-based cleaners.
