SURF-1 Antibody (E-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b light chain antibody that detects SURF-1 in human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SURF-1 plays a crucial role in the assembly of complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, which is essential for cellular respiration and energy production. Located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, SURF-1 is integral to the proper functioning of mitochondria, and mutations in the SURF-1 gene can lead to severe consequences, such as cytochrome c oxidase complex IV deficiency. This deficiency is associated with Leigh syndrome, a devastating neurological disorder characterized by rapid progression of encephalopathy and necrotic lesions in subcortical brain regions.
