Cytokeratin 2E Antibody (Ks2.342.7.1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Cytokeratin 2E protein of mouse, rat, human, and bovine origin by western blotting (WB), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Anti-Cytokeratin 2E antibody (Ks2.342.7.1) is available as a non-conjugated format. Cytokeratin 2E, also known as KRT2 or Keratin 2, is a crucial member of the cytokeratin family of intermediate filament proteins, predominantly expressed in the suprabasal layers of the human epidermis, typically beginning in the third or fourth cell layer. Cytokeratin 2E plays a vital role in the structural integrity and mechanical resilience of epithelial tissues, particularly during keratinocyte maturation, where Cytokeratin 2E contributes to terminal cornification. Cytokeratin 2E differs from Cytokeratin 2P found in masticatory epithelia, which is encoded by a different gene and shows only 71% sequence homology in the rod domain. Both proteins are expressed exclusively in the suprabasal layers of their respective epithelia, forming significant components of the cytoskeleton. Mutations in the gene encoding Cytokeratin 2E are associated with ichthyosis bullosa of Siemens (IBS), an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, highlighting Cytokeratin 2E′s critical role in skin health and disease.
