Cystatin S/SA/SN Antibody (Z8983) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects cystatin S/SA/SN protein of human origin by western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). Anti-cystatin S/SA/SN antibody (Z8983) is available as a non-conjugated format. Cystatin S, cystatin SA, and cystatin SN are crucial members of the cystatin superfamily, which consists of cysteine protease inhibitors that play significant roles in various biological processes. These proteins are primarily found in saliva, but cystatin S and SN can also be detected in tears, urine, and seminal fluid, highlighting their importance in maintaining protease balance in bodily fluids. The presence of these cystatins in saliva is particularly important as they help protect oral tissues from proteolytic damage, thereby contributing to oral health and preventing inflammation. Additionally, cystatin C, a related protein, is expressed in various tissues including the brain and thymus, and serves as a key regulator of proteolytic activity in those areas. The ability of cystatins to inhibit cysteine peptidases, such as cathepsins, underscores their role in modulating protein degradation and maintaining cellular homeostasis. Cystatin S/SA/SN (Z8983) monoclonal antibody is an essential tool for researchers studying the functions and interactions of these proteins in health and disease.
