2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTFA) is a versatile compound with multiple roles as an inhibitor and chelating agent. It exhibits inhibitory effects on respiration in animals and bacteria by targeting specific enzyme complexes. In bacteria, it inhibits NADH fumarate reductase. 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone also demonstrates inhibition of photosystem II in plants and NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase in the Vibrio cholerae virus, leading to reduced production of cholera toxin. Furthermore, 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone serves as a chelator for various metals, including lanthanum, zirconium, hafnium, and neodymium. Its chelating properties enable it to form stable complexes with these metals.
